What can drive you mad? Having a dry itchy scalp. What makes it worse? Scratching it.
What's even worse than having a dry itchy scalp? Having the flaky scalp condition known as dandruff.
Scalp itching usually feels diabolical and the dandruff is unsettling and possibly a cause of social embarrassment.
An overgrowth of yeast that turns into dandruff is generally also the cause of itchy scalp. Dandruff is actually a mild form of seborrheic dermatitis, a skin disease. The more inflamed form of seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp really drives its poor suffers mad with scabs and terrible itchiness.
You can imagine what having any of these scalp problems does to levels of confidence and self-esteem.
What fixes dandruff and itchy scalp?
There are a huge number of products on the market that claim to fix the problems of dandruff and scalp itchiness.
From our Simplicité nutritive point of view however, anti-dandruff hair products are harsh and don’t moisturise effectively.
There are some anti-dandruff hair products that claim to use natural botanicals, however the botanicals are used in such tiny amount (less than 2%) that they are useless.
Using a dandruff-specific shampoo may help for a while but the harsh ingredients often then create other scalp problems.
Harsh anti-dandruff, itchy scalp ingredients
The many anti-dandruff products really only rely on a few hero ingredients – these include pyrithione zinc (ZPT), coal tar, salicylic acid and ketoconazole.
Perhaps these anti-fungals do quell flakiness, perhaps itchiness, at least for a while, but as we've said, they're harsh and non-nutritive and also are used with a whole list of other non-nutritive ingredients.
At Simplicité we believe that only by using the best nutrients available can you achieve give lasting results for healthy, lustrous hair (as well as healthy skin).
Rather than any one ingredient being important it is the synergy of the many ingredients used.
This is why our herbalist-made shampoo and conditioner effectively overcome itchy scalp and dandruff and can even fix the worst possible scalp problem of seborhoeic dermatitis.
